Grandiose fusion of desert blues and Arabic orchestral music.
Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra & Hind Ennaira
Gnawa
With her compelling singing and string playing, Hind Ennaira gives new energy to the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra. Hind Ennaira was born in Essaouira, the cradle of Gnawa, the Afro-Moroccan desert blues. At a young age, she devoted herself to a genre that initially seemed only accessible to men. Today, she sets the tone in the Gnawa, as a singer and player of the stringed instrument Guembri.
Amsterdam and Morocco
The Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra plays various forms of music from Granada to Baghdad, from different periods and in multiple styles, from the rich Arabo-Andalus repertoire, which originated on the Iberian Peninsula, to mystical Eastern music, refined improvisational music from the Arab world and folk music from the Maghreb. Musicians form the orchestra from Amsterdam and Morocco. Over the years, it has collaborated with artists from various genres, from Arabic to jazz and flamenco.
