Bad With Names
Glasgow-based corto.alto looks at jazz through the lens of the internet. In his YouTube clips, we often see him working with mixing consoles and samplers, but he also alternates between playing keyboards, bass, guitar and even trombone. A fascinating sound world unfolds in which danceable grooves, dark dub and flexible improvisation alternate.
Under the name corto.alto, Scottish multi-instrumentalist Liam Shortall gives his vision of the future of music. As a young trombonist, he made his mark in the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra. At the same time, he was making beats in his bedroom. With his first releases, he received a lot of attention in the radio shows of Jamie Cullum and Gilles Peterson, among others. He collaborated with well-known names from British jazz, including Fergus McCreadie, and played at major festivals such as Glastonbury. Corto.alto's debut album, 'Bad With Names', was recently released.
