Kassa Overall
Kassa Overall is a name floating around the American underground for years, a brave musical innovator in the same vein as Robert Glasper, Madlib and Questlove. The drummer/producer released the album ANIMALS last year on Warp Records, the British label that made school with the electronics of Aphex Twin and Autechre. Whatever beats Kassa Overall produces, they develop into a new sound during live performances.

Revolutionary beats from new addition to the Warp label
Kassa Overall started playing drums early, and his liberal parents introduced him to jazz, folk, reggae and Indian music. With his brother Carlos, he delved into hip-hop and learned to make beats on the MPC sampler. “Our musical creativity always served a greater purpose and had a revolutionary undertone,” he says now. Drumming legend Billy Hart was his mentor during his music training. On ANIMALS, we hear well-known names from jazz, hip-hop and neo-soul, from Theo Croker and Vijay Iyer via Danny Brown and Shabazz Palaces to Laura Mvula and Nick Hakim.
