A response to the storming of the Capitol
With Fanatic, River Adomeit wrote a suite that on the one hand remains true to the music of his home country, the United States. On the other hand, it is also a critique of the developments there, the rise of right-wing extremism and the seemingly futile fight against it. This 'Americana suite' is a response to the storming of the Capitol and uses samples from Nancy Pelosi, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, among others. Fanatic is performed by Flatland Prayer, the trio in which River Adomeit plays double bass, for this performance supplemented by Joris Roelofs on bass clarinet. Flatland Prayer gives a new, contemporary twist to the American form of songwriting. Folk, indie, bluegrass and jazz are linked to spoken word, theatre and performance art, whereby narrative elements come to the fore. Both the lyrics sung by Liva Dumpe and the lyrical trumpet playing of Antonio Moreno contribute to this.
