Maciej Obara Quartet
Maciej Obara's melodies are steeped in Eastern European melancholy. The Polish alto saxophonist draws inspiration from both classical music and Roma culture. The alto sax of this Polish revelation, known from Tómasz Stanko's band, brings warm and melancholic sounds. Maciej Obara Quartet performs at the Bimhuis.

Frozen Silence
To compose his recent album 'Frozen Silence', he retreated to the mountainous landscape of Karkonosze in southwestern Poland, where his family comes from. The sparse, tranquil landscape is reflected in the music, which offers plenty of room for improvisation by Obara's band members. Pianist Dominik Wania, who Obara met in the band of trumpet legend Tómasz Stanko, is crucial to the band's sound. The band is completed by two greats of Scandinavian jazz, Norwegian double bassist Ole Morten Vågan and Swedish drummer Jon Fält.
'Frozen Silence' is Obara's third album on the famous label ECM Records, after 'Unloved' and 'Three Crowns', including arrangements of compositions by the famous Polish composers Henryk Górecki and Krzysztof Komeda.
