Ronald Brautigam
On October 1, the eminent pianist and Beethoven specialist Ronald Brautigam turns 70. He celebrates this a few days before, where he is most at home: in the Main Hall of the Concertgebouw. Under the baton of the eminent and inspiring Edo de Waart, honorary conductor of the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, he solos in Beethoven's powerful Third Piano Concerto .
Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3
Beethoven reserved the key of C minor for his most extroverted and emotional compositions: stormy, heroic and dramatic. The Third Piano Concerto is no exception. The long, symphonic orchestral introduction and the powerful piano entry are the prelude to a concert full of lyricism and virtuosity. The Adagio from Otto Ketting's Third Symphony is moving and elusive. It is unmistakably modern, but regularly refers to the music of Mahler.
