Stella Chen makes her debut in The Concertgebouw with Brahms

Stella Chen was the youngest ever laureate of the Yehudi Menuhin Competition and in 2019 she won the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition. The American violinist is now conquering the world. Partly thanks to her impressive debut album Stella x Schubert, she was the winner of the Gramophone Young Artist of the Year 2023. 'The combination of her shiny tone and dazzling technique ensures music that attracts attention at any time.' She will do that this evening with Brahms' impressive Violin Concerto .

Mahler's Symphony No. 1

The world premiere of Mahler's beloved First Symphony in 1889 was not a success. Apparently Mahler was too progressive for his contemporaries, who called this picturesque symphony 'unbalanced'. Mahler was inspired by spring dreams, farmer's dances, natural disasters and hunting scenes. The famous third movement is based on the well-known children's song Father Jacob in a minor key.
