Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 4 and Kozhukhin plays Chopin Piano Concerto No. 2

'Insanely refined, raw where necessary', wrote NRC about pianist Denis Kozhukhin, who plays Chopin's 'Second Piano Concerto' in Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam. With conductor Emilia Hoving, the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra also presents Tchaikovsky's epic 'Fourth Symphony'.

Denis Kozhukhin returns to the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra

Denis Kozhukhin had his international breakthrough in 2010 when he won first prize at the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels. As a successful concert pianist and chamber musician, the Russian pianist is showered with rave reviews. 'Insanely refined, raw where necessary', according to NRC . About an earlier performance with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Parool wrote: 'Kozhukhin proves that there is life in classical music'. At the time he played Grieg, this time he is the soloist in Chopin's poetic Second Piano Concerto .

Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4

'Shouldn't a symphony express everything for which there are no words, but what flows from the soul and cries out to be expressed?', says Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky about the intentions of his Fourth Symphony . He wrote an epic work about the vagaries of fate, melancholy, a drunken stupor and, ultimately, the joy of life. The Radio Philharmonic Orchestra plays Tchaikovsky's masterpiece under the direction of the promising Finnish conductor Emilia Hoving.
