Living day by day

Although he lives in Amsterdam for decades, Mola Sylla gives voice to the old tradition of the griots, who passed their craft from father to son in Senegal. Historically, the griots form a cast, respected as guardians of the oral tradition and councelors of the king. Using instruments like kongoma, m'bira, and xalam, Mola Sylla connects this culture smoothly to the Amsterdam tradition of Bimhuis, Zaal 100 and Splendor: improvised music.

With The Legendary Love Orchestra he made music for Scapino Ballet. With Ernst Reijseger and Harmen Fraanje - usual suspects of Song of Yoga - he made film music for Werner Herzog, and several albums that were widely acclaimed. 'Sylla is the troublemaker,' national newspaper De Volkskrant wrote, 'His expression and voice can sound frightening, and then again happy, in fine African tunes.'

His voice reveals where the blues comes from, and at the same time, in his music always resonates an unshakable spirit: life is lived day by day. His Song of Yoga is one from the heart.

Yin Yoga

The calm, meditative but intense postures of yin yoga allow to sink deeper into consciousness, beyond the patterns of the mind. On the yogamat, physical sensations weave together with the musical improvisations. The mind becomes quieter, opening space to meet the music and poetry in the heart.

Practical info

The 'Stadshout Paviljoen' shelters a piano, the yoga mats find space on a stone underground, under the open sky. If rain is forecasted, two hours in advance an email will be send whether the yoga concert will take place (tickets can be refunded or exchanged for another yoga concert). A cancellation will be announced on the website and Facebook as well.

Bring your mat, and if you like some props like a pillow, block and/or a blanket. Instructions and poetry will be bilingual. From 18:45 onwards you are welcome to find your spot. Parking places for cars are available along the street/bike road along the park, parking is free from 19:00 onwards. The Amstel park is open until half an hour before sunset.
