Rembrandt & the world
Typically Dutch – that is how many people see Rembrandt and his work. In the Rembrandt & the World exhibition, you will travel through more than forty etchings by Rembrandt from the collection of the Rembrandthuis Museum, which always features something non-Dutch. Discover where Rembrandt got his knowledge and inspiration from, and how worldly-wise (or unworldly?) he actually was.
Rembrandt & the world
Fantasy world
Unlike many other artists of his time, Rembrandt never travelled abroad. But make no mistake. You can see a lot of the world in his etchings, from lions, exotic shells and turbans, to mountainous landscapes and Italian buildings.
If Rembrandt had a motto, it was undoubtedly 'work from life' - so show what you see, as it is. Yet he often gave free rein to his imagination, surprisingly also with some of his self-portraits. If you would like to read more about this exhibition, visit the website for all the information.
