Invisible Matters

The exhibition 'Invisible Matters' makes the invisible forces that influence urban nature, experienceable in a special way. A variety of works by artists, designers and experts are part. From observing the role of fungi and bacteria, the well-being of urban trees and exploration of root systems, to vistas such as ecologically driven AI and more.

Amsterdam 3hoog achter (third-floor apartment in the back)

Artist Jet Nijkamp cycled through all of Amsterdam, visiting people’s homes to draw their views of trees and record the stories behind them.
Now, 50 of these drawings are part of an exhibition featuring poetry performances, consultations with tree experts, and the launch of a book about the entire project. This exhibition, which is a tribute to Amsterdam as a city of trees, will run from 4 to 20 April 2025.

Drawing Urban Wilderness

The Illustration Embassy celebrates Amsterdam 750 with an exhibition about the nature of Westerpark. Beautiful illustrations and data visualisations show the biodiversity, from birds to special plants. Visitors are invited to see the park with new eyes and discover nature. Suitable for young and old, on display from 1 to 18 May in Meterhuisje at Westergas.

SHREDDED- Marina Metaal

In the middle of summer, the work of visual artist Marina Metaal can be seen in WG Kunst. Metaal graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in 1995. She works as an artist and since 2008 also as a frame maker. The Versnipperd (Shredded) exhibition consists of an installation, portraits and drawings in ink on paper.

Ode to the Kinkerbuurt

From 8 February to 1 March, the public Passage of De Hallen Amsterdam will be the stage for the photo exhibition 'Ode aan de Kinkerbuurt'. With this exhibition, photographer Maarten Delobel attempts to capture the soul of the Kinkerbuurt, a unique neighbourhood where an enormous diversity of stories and generations live together in a few 100 square metres. A selection of the portraits will be hung as large banners on the monumental roof of the 100-metre-long passage of De Hallen, so that visitors are literally surrounded by the faces of the neighbourhood.

Ketelhuis Next Door: Henri Verhoef – ' The Gay Agenda: A Speculative Future'

From 7 until 30 March, photographer and artist Henri Verhoef takes you on a journey to the Amsterdam of the future, a queer utopia, in Meterhuisje in the Westergas district. This exhibition, specifically developed for LGBTQ+ filmfestival Roze Filmdagen, shows portraits of futuristic, mutated queer aliens that Verhoef created in collaboration with artificial intelligence.

From July 12 to 21, Ukrainian artist Anna Kakhiani will exhibit her latest work (installations, video) at WG Kunst. In this art project she gives an impression of her research into empathy, in images and language. With peripheral programming (lectures, panel discussion).

In 'My Bucket List for the City', a diverse group of residents from Amsterdam West share personal stories in which they share their wishes for the city. What wishes did the residents of West have in mind to make our beloved city even more beautiful? The free exhibition brings out-of-the-box ideas as well as traditional desires through staged photographs and unique stories!

Women in Art

After last year's success, Women in Art will return in March 2024. Kiekie Art Foundation organises the event, which offers female artists a platform and draws attention to gender equality in the sector. This year, 24 female photographers and illustrators will participate in the program.

The internationally famous Hetty van der Linden travels around the world. Her work is represented in various collections: from Buenos Aires, New York, Paris, Madrid to Croatia. For(rest) Dub Dub Dub explores the material culture of war economies and the impact of global wars on our society. At a time when the consequences of wars in Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan and Congo are palpable, Em'kal Eyongakpa and Marcel van den Berg investigate the role of art in processing war and violence with camo/sound sculptures, paintings and ceramic works. On display in Metro54.
