Mozart's Grosse Messe

The Grosse Messe in C minor , KV 427 is one of Mozart's most beautiful works. He probably composed this mass as a wedding present for his new wife and soprano Constance Weber. The Grosse Messe is moving, jubilant and grand, and written for four- to eight-part choir, soloists and orchestra. From the first heavenly notes of the Kyrie you will be captivated by this magnificent music, with enchanting soprano solos such as only the wonder composer Mozart could write. He did this for his beloved Constance, who also sang them at the time. Tonight you will also hear Mendelssohn's Psalm 42 'Wie der Hirsch schreit' , Psalm 55 'Hör mein Bitten' and the Andante from his Violin Concerto , Op. 64.

The Amsterdam Mixed Choir

The Amsterdam Mixed Choir is an experienced amateur choir of 130 singers and can be heard regularly in the Concertgebouw. In addition to well-known oratorios such as Bach's St. Matthew Passion , St. John Passion and Weihnachtsoratorium and the requiem by Verdi and Mozart and Handel's Messiah , the repertoire also includes more modern works by Jenkins, Britten, Rutter and Vasks. The Amsterdam Mixed Choir has existed for almost 100 years. Under the inspiring leadership of conductor Paul Valk, this choir combines musical quality with a passion for singing.
