Eine Alpensinfonie by Richard Strauss
"While I wait for your input, I am busy writing a symphony," Richard Strauss wrote to his librettist Hugo von Hofmannsthal in 1911, shortly after the successful premiere of Der Rosenkavelier . Strauss referred to Eine Alpensinfonie , a musical poem about an adventurous walk through the Alps. With a huge orchestra of approximately 130 musicians, Strauss conjures up various natural phenomena; from a radiant sunrise and a sparkling waterfall to spectacular views and a turbulent storm.
