IJ-Salon - Mahler 5

Conductor Bernard Haitink and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra have become world famous thanks to their interpretations of the symphonies of Gustav Mahler. In memory of Haitink, who died in 2021, the orchestra appoints a young conductor every two years to assist the chief conductor of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Camerata RCO, the chamber orchestra consisting of orchestra members, is now performing Mahler's 'Fifth Symphony' in a version for small chamber orchestra under the direction of this great talent, in Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ.

Michael Gieler, artistic director of IJ-Salon: 'This program came about almost spontaneously: Camerata RCO with its sensational interpretations of Mahler for chamber orchestra and a new conductor yet to be named who may follow in Bernard Haitink's footsteps. All this at the same time as the big Mahler festival in the Concertgebouw. It will be an intimate look at Mahler's gigantic declaration of love to Alma.'
