Lucie Horsch, Liza Ferschtman, Ivan Karizna, Olivier Thiery + Lilli Maijala - Schubert en Vaughan Williams
Piano debut of Lucie Horsch in two phenomenal quintets in Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ. This now world-famous recorder player is a great multi-talent, because she previously presented herself as a singer. Now she sits, surrounded by great musicians such as Liza Ferschtman and Olivier Thiery, behind the grand piano in the long unheard 'Piano Quintet' by Vaughan Williams and the ever-invigorating 'Trout Quintet' by Schubert. What connects the two works is the double bass in the string setting.

Schubert and Vaughan Williams
Schubert's Piano Quintet was an immediate success. This is mainly due to the captivating fourth movement: a series of variations on Schubert's own song Die Forelle . Because the double bass takes care of the bass line, Lucie Horsch can shine on the piano in the higher register. Vaughan Williams was not satisfied with his quintet and withdrew it. It was not until 1999 that it was given a place in the repertoire again, and rightly so: it is a true masterpiece that deserves to be performed at the highest level.
