The young and promising trumpeter Peter Somuah hails from Accra, Ghana and is based in Rotterdam. His virtuoso trumpet playing becomes even more impressive when you consider that he taught himself to play. He developed his warm, melancholic sound by listening endlessly to his heroes Miles Davis and Roy Hargrove.

Outer Space
After his debut album Outer Space , for which he won the Edison Awards, Somuah will launch his new album High-life in the fall of 2024. High-life is a tribute to Ghanaian highlife music. Highlife has a unique sound with a characteristic finger-picking style on the guitar, minimalistic but groovy bass lines, percussive keyboard patterns, soulful melody lines by the brass section and a lot of emphasis on rhythm. The album features legends of the highlife genre such as Pat Thomas, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley and Koo Nimo, and connects the older and younger generations of Ghanaian musicians.
Somuah combines highlife with jazz to create a unique 'highlife jazz' sound, with a modern twist. The album also explores social and political themes, such as the lasting effects of colonialism and criticism of political corruption. Somuah has a unique way of translating the serious messages into an album that is hard to sit still and radiates liveliness and danceability.
