Boris Giltburg plays Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 4
Master pianist Boris Giltburg is a true Rachmaninoff prophet. His compelling performances are praised worldwide and he recently completed a successful series of five CDs with piano music by Rachmaninoff. Gramophone magazine praises Giltburg's Rachmaninoff interpretations for "the marriage of heart and mind, impeccable technique and a deep love for one of the greatest composer-pianists of the twentieth century." According to Giltburg, Rachmaninoff's Fourth Piano Concerto has 'a musical color that is different from all his other works'.
Stravinsky's Petrushka
Igor Stravinsky drew heavily on memories of his homeland for his fairytale ballet Petrushka . In his musical portrait of an exuberant farm fair in the Russian countryside you not only hear cheerful partygoers and dancing bears, but also a doll comes to life. Petrushka, the Russian version of our Jan Klaassen, is hopelessly in love with a ballerina, but she doesn't like him. The National Youth Orchestra, led by Antony Hermus, conjures up the festive spirit, with choreography!
