Schubert's Ninth & The Jussen Brothers play Say's Anka kuşu
Lucas and Arthur Jussen
'They seem to be in a trance behind the piano: eyes closed, their heads swaying to the music, slightly turned away from each other,' says NRC about the successful Jussen brothers. Today they play Anka kuşu by Fazil Say. The three gentlemen know each other well. Say previously wrote work for the pianists. Say: 'I feel like their older brother.' Lucas and Arthur Jussen: 'Fazil elicits sounds from the musicians you have not heard before. Colour is his speciality. Everything is in this piece, from rhythm to heavy, dramatic phrases.'
Anca Kuşu by Fazil Say and Schubert's Symphony No. 9
Repeated due to success: Anka kuşu by Fazil Say, which was already heard in The Royal Concertgebouw last season. During the coronavirus pandemic, Lucas and Arthur Jussen asked Say, who had previously written for them, for a new work. The result is a concerto for four-hand piano and orchestra, based on the Phoenix legend, the story of the bird that rises again and again from its ashes. Aladdin's magic lamp will also illuminate this concert, but an even greater miracle occurs when the romantic introduction to Schubert's Ninth Symphony sounds. Enchanting music!
