Master pianist Uri Caine from New York goes back to basics in an acoustic setting at the Bimhuis. When Uri Caine performs in the tried and tested piano trio, you can expect something special. As a pianist, keyboardist and composer, he is a great figure in the jazz avant-garde of New York. Just like kindred spirit John Zorn, he logically brings together all kinds of styles, from klezmer to funk and from film music to classical works by Bach and Beethoven.

With his acoustic trio he plays a combination of new original compositions, standards and free improvisations. Over the years, Uri Caine has built a strong bond with the members of his trio, double bassist Mark Helias and drummer Joey Baron. 'I met Joey and Mark when I first moved to New York and had the opportunity to play with them in the rhythm sections of various groups', he says. 'From the moment we started playing together I felt an instant connection. I'm looking forward to performing together as a trio because playing with them is always a blast!'
