The Separatist Party
An article from the New York Times inspired The Separatist Party. Long before the pandemic, Mike Reed read the story about the secluded George Bell, an obsessive collector found only in his home almost a week after his death. All feelings about isolated lives were shaped by poetry and music, touching minimal music, kraut rock and the liberating jazz of Don Cherry and Pharoah Sanders.
Mike Reed
Drummer and composer Mike Reed is a key figure in Chicago's current music scene as the founder of the club Constellation and the influential Pitchfork Music Festival. He actively seeks collaboration with the many young musicians from his home city but has also done projects with exemplary figures such as Roscoe Mitchell and Wadada Leo Smith. He has previously performed with spoken word artist Marvin Tate and cornetist Ben LaMar Gay in the ensemble Flesh & Bone. Bitchin' Bajas were seen in Bimhuis last year during the Minimal Music Festival. This concert is organized in collaboration with The Rest is Noise.
