Amirtha Kidambi’s Elder Ones
With her agile voice, Amirtha Kidambi explores many directions - hindustani music, for example, in line with her Indian origins. Because of her daring improvisation style, she is often associated with the revolutionary free jazz of the sixties. The singer from Brooklyn and her groundbreaking band present the album 'New Monuments' in the Bimhuis.

Amirtha Kidambi
Amirtha Kidambi is also an organizer and activist who responds to injustice. She clearly shows kinship with contemporaries such as Matana Roberts, Jaimie Branch and Irreversible Entanglements. In her regular band, Elder Ones, all members contribute to the band's sound through improvisations and live electronics. Amirtha Kidambi made her impressive debut at the Bimhuis in the group Code Girl with Mary Halvorson and Ambrose Akinmusire. This spring, 'New Monuments', the third album by Elder Ones, will be released, in which she also plays harmonium and synthesizer. Her compositions for the band offer plenty of room for group improvisation with the four other members, all great talents from New York: Matt Nelson on saxophone, Lester St. Louis on cello, Eva Lawitts on bass and Jason Nazary on drums and modular synthesizer.
