Joe Lovano “Trio Tapestry” ft. Marilyn Crispell & Carmen Castaldi

Trio Tapestry is a special chapter in Joe Lovano's extensive oeuvre. According to the famous saxophonist, his compositions for this trio are among the 'most intimate, personal music' he ever recorded. The band members give each other plenty of space, as can be heard on their most recent album 'Our Daily Bread' - a transparent and melodic interplay by three American jazz veterans in the Bimhuis.

Joe Lovano

As on their two previous albums, Lovano's endearing saxophone coincides perfectly here with the free play of Marilyn Crispell on piano and Carmen Castaldi on drums. Joe Lovano is among the most highly regarded and versatile tenor saxophonists ever. Of the many different bands with which he played at the Bimhuis, Trio Tapestry most resembles the trio with guitarist Bill Frisell and percussionist Paul Motian from the eighties and nineties. With Marilyn Cispell, he played in several bands in New York, including Paul Motian and Anthony Braxton. Lovano and Carmen Castaldi are childhood friends. Both attended the Berklee School of Music in Boston.
