James Brandon Lewis Quartet
American star formation around the new hero of the tenor sax.
James Brandon Lewis Quartet
Hall of fame
James Brandon Lewis is praised to the skies by his role model, Sonny Rollins, and he fits perfectly into the Hall of Fame of tenor saxophonists. Albert Ayler's spirituality and John Coltrane's cosmic aspirations are great sources of inspiration, but the saxophonist from New York mainly has both feet in the present. With his quartet, he builds on his concept of Molecular Systematic Music, in which melody forms the starting point for enchanting improvisations.
Star players
The James Brandon Lewis Quartet is a true supergroup with star players such as Aruán Ortiz, the Cuban-born pianist who previously played here in various formations. Double bassist Brad Jones made a name for himself in New York with Ornette Coleman, John Zorn and Marc Ribot and worked with stars such as David Byrne and Elvis Costello. Drummer Chad Taylor is known for the Chicago Underground Duo. The quartet recorded the studio album Code of Being and the live album Molecular Systematic Music Live, which received a top rating of 5 stars in the authoritative magazine Downbeat.
